⁸ I looked, and behold, an ^[a](A)ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name ^(B)Death; and ^(C)Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, ^(D)to kill with sword and with famine and with ^[b]pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.

⁹ When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw ^(E)underneath the ^(F)altar the ^(G)souls of those who had been slain ^(H)because of the word of God, and because of the ^(I)testimony which they had maintained; ¹⁰ and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “^(J)How long, O ^[c](K)Lord, ^(L)holy and true, ^[d]will You refrain from ^(M)judging and avenging our blood on ^(N)those who dwell on the earth?”
